This is a ritoun, or drinking vessel, that was originally made for Persian kings ca. 500 BC.  This one features a lion's head, with wings and hieroglyphics.

From this figure you can see the popularity of winged creatures in Persian culture and religion at the time.  The faravahar is also a well-recognised symbol from this period.

This figure measures approximately 20 cm (8") high. The base is approximately 15 cm x 6.5 cm (6" x 2.5"). Shipping weight 5.50 pounds.
